Hello World!
The first step is always the hardest.
This proverb seems to ring false when barriers to information are lowered day after day. I would like my personal experiences to contribute to this trend by documenting my challenges (and hopefully the occasional success) in getting up to speed with current concepts in data science.
Keeping this in mind, I have a couple of personal development goals for this blog:
-
Capture my experience in improving my programming skills (primarily Python and R) through hobby projects, and develop a stronger understanding of statistics, algorithms, and machine learning concepts.
-
Refine my writing skills, particularly in non-technical communication. I know I struggle with distilling thoughts and ideas into efficient phrases.
-
Provide some motivation to follow-through on hobby projects. I have a tendency to work through the most interesting part of a problem and then drop it for another. I am hoping to carry more of these through to a finished state and showcase the work.
I am expecting (aiming) to get out at least one post a week, highlighting any project progress for the week. Any projects I reference in the blog will appear on my github, so check in over there. As with any endeavor, the end result hardly looks like the initial concept, so we will see where this takes us.
